Reviews of the Pulse 6 seminars

Below you can find some reviews of our two last Pulse seminars on October 20th. We will have the actual presentations online for you next week.

Open Source: A short review by our HR Business Partner – Nancy Moerman
“Open Source software is not the same as free software”
This was the opening statement of the seminar host, Bart Van Loon. As expected from a founder and owner of an Open Source company, Bart fills us in on all the details with verve and passion for the trade. This man clearly knows what he’s talking about.
We were presented with a clear view on the definition and origins of Open Source, describing its unmistakable reason for existence. A great collection of nice-to-knows about a license (Open Source is really a license) that everybody knows and uses. Just think about Firefox, Google and Wikipedia. Few people know that it is backed by a complete foundation and philosophy.
We learned about the 4 fundamentals that software needs to have in order to obtain an Open Source license as well as the 10 commandments by Open Source guru Richard Stallman. In the end we got some best practices for being a good Open Source contributor.

Good to know: the Open Source concept is not just restricted to software as is proven bij Open Cola and Open Lager: two drinks that add their ingredients and recipe with your purchase.

Sharepoint: A short review by our HR Business Partner – Adeline van Zuylen
Jan Tielens hosted a fascinating seminar on the novelties within Sharepoint 2010. He was able to support his theory with various demos.

In part one of the presentation Jan elaborated on the customization of Sharepoint 2010 with special attention for the improvements since the 2007 version and some completely new features.

The second part was centred around Visual Studio 2010 development and the new integration possibilities with Silverlight.
